Ex Australian Olympic coach and Melbourne Swimming Club (MSC) Head Coach Ian Pope has recently established a new training group based in Geelong.
Pope who has an incredible track record and has served on the 2000 and 2008 Olympic Teams, will oversee the MSC Geelong program that will be under the guidance of one of Australia’s most promising coaches Kirsten Porter. Porter joins MSC after coaching in Queensland with the leading club in Australia St Peter’s Western, and a former Head Coach of Ballarat.
Pope commented, ‘I look forward to working closely with Kirsten and the Geelong training squad to bring greater success to the region’.
Porter states, ‘Geelong has some great local talent, I am excited to provide a professional environment that focuses on the technical and mental aspects of the sport’.
Three local Geelong swimmers will represent Melbourne Swimming Club at the Australian Swimming Championships this April & May.
Fourteen-year-old Max Hussey and Romy Heard will compete in both individual and relays at the 2022 Australian Age Championships in Adelaide from Wednesday 13 th April – Monday 18 th April.
Madison Cooper will be competing in the 2022 Australian Open Championship from 17 th May – 22 nd May 2022.
All three athletes recently competed in the 2022 Victorian Age Championships at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre where Melbourne Swimming Club finished fourth in the club rankings which was an outstanding achievement considering the club was formed less than 10 months ago.
